ELKINS, W.VA.- A 37-year-old Hillsboro, West Virginia, man will be spending nearly the next four years in federal prison after being sentenced on Thursday for a federal drug trafficking offense.
On Thursday, May 31, 2025, Joshua Ray Vanreenan, 37, of Hillsboro, West Virginia, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of West Virginia and was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Thomas S. Kleeh to 46 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release for his conviction of Distribution of Methamphetamine.
According To The U.S. Attorney’s Office
According to Acting U.S. Attorney Randolph J. Bernard and charging documents filed with the District Court, during an ongoing narcotics investigation into the distribution of illicit narcotics within the Pocahontas County, West Virginia area, Investigators of the Mountain Region Drug Task Force identified Vanreenan as a distributor of methamphetamine.
During the course of the investigation, Vanreenan sold quantities of methamphetamine to a confidential informant from his Hillsboro, West Virginia, home during a controlled buy under the observation of law enforcement investigators. A short time later, Investigators executed a court-authorized search of Vanreenan’s home, took him into custody, and formally charged him.
In handing down the sentence on Thursday, Judge Kleeh noted Vanreenan’s prior criminal history, including convictions for firearms offenses, as well as domestic violence.
