ALBANY, NY.- A 22-year-old Troy, New York, man will be facing up to 40 years in federal prison when sentenced after admitting guilt on Monday to a federal drug crime.

According to U.S. Attorney John A. Sarcone, III, on Monday, June 2, 2025, Daval Byrams, 22, of Troy, New York, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York and pleaded guilty to Possessing 3 Kilograms of a Controlled Substance, Cocaine with Intent to Distribute.

At Sentencing, Byrams Faces Up To 40 Years In Federal Prison

Sentencing in the matter has not been scheduled at this time. However, when sentenced, Byrams faces a mandatory minimum of five years and up to 40 years in federal prison, at least four years and up to a lifetime of supervised release, and a fine of up to $5 million. At sentencing, a U.S. District Court Judge will determine the term of imprisonment based on the seriousness of the offense and Byrams’ prior criminal history, if any.

Byrams Admits To Transporting 3 Kilograms Of Cocaine

During his plea allocution on Monday, Byrams admitted that on March 5, 2025, he traveled from the New York Capital Region to New York City to pick up cocaine and that when he returned home that evening, he was carrying three one-kilogram bricks of cocaine. Law enforcement investigators apprehended Byrams as he departed from a bus in Schenectady, New York.

U.S. Attorney John A Sarcone, III stated, “When a defendant traffics this volume of cocaine to the Northern District of New York, he should expect that my office and our law enforcement partners will find him, seize his drugs, and send him to prison, it’s that simple.”
