Former School Principal Pleads Guilty To A Federal Child Pornography Offense

TRENTON, NJ.- A 78-year-old Lanoka Harbor, New Jersey, man, and previously convicted child sex offender is facing spending the rest of his life in federal prison after pleading guilty on Monday to a federal child pornography offense.
According to U.S. Attorney Alina Habba, on Monday, June 9, 2025, John Mangan, 78, of Lanoka Harbor, New Jersey, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey and pleaded guilty before U.S. District Court Judge Michael A. Shipp to a one-count indictment charging Possession of Child Pornography.
Following entering his guilty plea on Monday, Judge Shipp accepted the plea and scheduled sentencing for October 21, 2025, in Federal Court in Trenton, New Jersey. At that time, Mangan faces an enhanced term of a mandatory minimum of ten years and up to 20 years in federal prison due to prior felony convictions for child sex crimes.
According To Charging Information Unsealed In The Indictment
According to the charging information unsealed in the indictment and filed in the District Court, on October 29, 2024, during an ongoing internet child pornography investigation, Agents with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations executed a court-authorized search warrant at Mangan’s Lanoka Harbor, New Jersey home. During the search, Agents located an electronic device containing over 250 digital images depicting children being sexually abused.
Mangan was previously convicted of sexual offenses involving children, including a New Jersey State conviction for sexually assaulting a child and a prior federal conviction for possession of child pornography.
