UNION CITY, NJ.- On Tuesday, following an investigation, a 26-year-old Union City, New Jersey, man employed as a middle School teacher in West New York was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with distributing sexually explicit material with a juvenile online.
According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, Juan Sanchez Moya, 26, of Union City, New Jersey, was formally charged with first-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child; third-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child; and fourth-degree Distributing Obscene Material to a Minor.
Moya Jailed After Being Charged
Moya was taken into custody on Tuesday at his Union City home by Detectives of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit with assistance from the Union City Police Department and the Hudson County Regional S.W.A.T. Unit. Moya was processed on the charges and was remanded to the Hudson County Correctional Facility, pending future court proceedings in Hudson County Superior Court in Jersey City, New Jersey.
The charges stem from an investigation that began when a 17-year-old juvenile came forward and reported meeting Moya through an online gaming platform. During the ensuing investigation, Detectives determined that Moya exchanged sexually explicit material with the juvenile victim. The alleged crimes did not occur at the West New York Middle School, and the juvenile victim is not a student in the West New York School District.
