Man Found Guilty Of Murder In 2021 Jersey City Mass Shooting

JERSEY CITY, NJ.- On Monday, June 9, 2025, following a trial in Hudson County Superior Court, a jury found Omire Rios-William, 23, of Jersey City, New Jersey, guilty on charges in connection with the May 2021 Jersey City, New Jersey, shooting that killed two and left another four injured.

     According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, on Monday, the jury convicted Rios-Williams of two counts of first-degree Murder; one count of first-degree Conspiracy to Commit Murder; four counts of Attempted Murder; four counts of Aggravated Assault; two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.

     On Monday, the jury found Rios-Williams’ co-defendant, Cooleone McNeil, 25, of Bayonne, New Jersey, guilty of first-degree Conspiracy to Commit Murder and acquitted him of the remaining charges in the indictment for his role in the mass shooting.

Conviction Stems From Mass Shooting Investigation

     The convictions stem from an incident that began on May 21, 2021, when shortly before 11:00 p.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to multiple reports of gunfire near the intersection of Crescent Avenue and Brinkerhoff Street in the Bergen Hill neighborhood of the City.

     Upon arrival, Police Officers found six gunshot victims having sustained gunshot wounds. Two of the victims, later identified as Jason Crutcher, 26, and Randolph Black, Jr., both of Jersey City, New Jersey, had succumbed to their injuries and were subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene. The other four gunshot victims were transported to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.
