Two Garfield Teens Charged In 2024 Late-Night Armed Robbery

GARFIELD, NJ.- Today, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella reported that two 18-year-old Garfield, New Jersey, men, both of whom were 17 years old at the time of the incident, were taken into custody and charged in connection with an alleged armed robbery that occurred in August 2024 in the Borough of Garfield, New Jersey.

     According to the juvenile charges filed in the family court, on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at around 10:00 p.m., members of the Garfield Police Department responded to a report of an armed robbery on Westervelt Place in the Borough.

     Upon arrival, Police Officers located a victim who informed them that two suspects robbed them at gunpoint of their money and property. 

Following A Months-Long Investigation, Suspects Are Identified

     Following a months-long joint investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Squad and the Garfield Police Department, Detectives were able to identify the two 18-year-olds, who were juveniles at the time, as the suspects responsible for the armed robbery.

     Accordingly, on Monday, June 2, 2025, the first of the two suspects was taken into protective custody by Detectives of the Garfield Police Department. On Tuesday, June 10, 2025, the second suspect surrendered himself at the Garfield Police Department.

     The first suspect was charged with juvenile delinquency, specifically, first-degree Armed Robbery; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; second-degree Conspiracy to Commit Robbery; and fourth-degree Aggravated Assault by Pointing a Firearm. Following an appearance in Bergen County Superior Court Family Law Division, the suspect was ordered released to home confinement in the custody of his legal guardian, pending future court proceedings.

     The second suspect was charged with juvenile delinquency, specifically, first-degree Armed Robbery; and second-degree Conspiracy to Commit Robbery. The suspect was transferred to the custody of the Bergen County Juvenile Detention Center, pending a closed hearing in Bergen County Superior Court Family Law Division.
