BOSTON, MA.- A 59-year-old Ecuadorian national with a prior felony conviction unlawfully in the United States is facing up to 10 years in federal prison following being indicted on a federal felony immigration crime.

According to U.S. Attorney Leah B. Foley, on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, a Federal Grand Jury for the District of Massachusetts returned an indictment charging Jose Tomas Lema Pugo, also known as “Jose Luis Ledezma,” 59, of Ecuador, illegally residing in Yarmouth, Massachusetts with one count of Illegal Reentry into the United States by a Previously Deported Alien.

According To Charging Information

According to the charging information unsealed in the indictment, Lema Pugo was deported from the United States to Ecuador in November 2013 after being convicted of a felony. It is alleged that sometime after his November 2013 removal, Lema Pugo, at an unknown date and unknown location, reentered the United States without obtaining permission or legal authorization to do so.

Lema Pugo was taken into custody by Immigration Officials on May 9, 2025, in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Lema Pugo, if convicted of the charge of illegal reentry of a deported alien with a prior felony conviction, faces up to 10 years in federal prison, up to three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. At sentencing, upon a finding of guilt, a U.S. District Court Judge will determine the term of imprisonment based on the seriousness of the offense and Lema Pugo’s prior criminal history.

Upon completion of any sentence imposed, Lema Pugo will face immediate deportation proceedings and be removed from the United States.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
