Asheville Methamphetamine & Gun Trafficker Sentenced To Federal Prison

ASHEVILLE, NC.- A 46-year-old former Asheville, North Carolina, man learned he would be in his early sixties when he is released from federal prison after being sentenced last Thursday to 15 years in prison for narcotics and firearms trafficking crimes.
According to U.S. Attorney Russ Ferguson, on Thursday, June 12, 2025, Jamal Marqui McDaniel, 46, formerly of Asheville, North Carolina, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina and was sentenced to 180 months in federal prison, to be followed by five years of supervised release for his previously entered guilty plea.
McDaniel previously appeared in Federal Court in Ashville, North Carolina, on February 21, 2025, and pleaded guilty to one count of Distribution of a Controlled Substance, Methamphetamine; Possession of a Firearm in Furtherance of a Drug Trafficking Crime; and Being in Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person, Convicted Felon.

According to the charging information filed in the District Court, local, state, and federal law enforcement Investigators launched a joint investigation after receiving creditable information that McDaniel was engaged in the illegal sale of illicit narcotics and firearms within the Asheville, North Carolina area.
McDaniel Sells Drugs And Guns To Informants
During the course of the investigation, McDaniel sold methamphetamine, firearms, and ammunition on multiple occasions to confidential informants during controlled buys under the observation of law enforcement Investigators. During the controlled buys, Investigators recovered nearly half a kilogram of methamphetamine and eight and eight firearms.
