ASHEVILLE, NC.- A 62-year-old Charlotte, North Carolina, convicted child predator will be spending the next decade in federal prison after being sentenced on Thursday for possessing thousands of digital images and video files depiction the sexual exploitation and abuse of prepubescent children while on federal probation.
According to U.S. Attorney Russ Ferguson, on Thursday, June 12, 2025, David Michael Dakoski, 62, of Charlotte, North Carolina, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina and was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Martin Reidinger to 120 months in federal prison for his April 25, 2025, guilty plea to Possession of Child Pornography.
In addition to the term of imprisonment, Judge Reidinger ordered Dakoski, upon release from federal prison, to serve a lifetime of supervised release, continue his sex offender registry requirements, and pay $88,000 in restitution to his identified victims.
According To Charging Documents
According to documents filed in the District Court, the term of incarceration stems from a probation violation after Dakoski was convicted in a previous child pornography case. In January 2018, Dakoski was convicted in the Federal Court of possession and receiving child pornography and was sentenced to federal prison. In November 2022, Dakoski was released from prison and began serving a term of federal supervised release under the supervision of the U.S. Probation Office.
In April 2024, Probation Officers conducted an unannounced home visit at Dakoski’s residence in Charlotte, North Carolina. During the visit, Probation Officers found Dakoski’s prohibited cellular phone that contained sexually explicit images of children. As a result, Dakoski’s supervised release was revoked, and he was taken into custody. He was later sentenced to two years in federal prison for the supervised release violation on his prior conviction.
Dakoski’s Cell Phone Contained Thousands Of Images
Court records further revealed that Dakoski’s prohibited cellular phone was turned over to Homeland Security Investigations. During a subsequent forensic examination, Investigators uncovered more than 8,270 digital images and six video files depicting the sexual exploitation and abuse of children, including many depicting infants and toddlers being sexually abused by adults.
U.S. Attorney Ferguson commended the investigative work of Homeland Security Investigations and the U.S. Probation Office that led to the successful prosecution of Dakoski.
