RARITAN TOWNSHIP, NJ.- A 45-year-old Raritan Township, New Jersey, woman will be facing spending the next 23 years in New Jersey State Prison after pleading guilty on Monday, in connection with the stabbing death of her senior citizen roommate that occurred last winter inside their Raritan Township home.
According to Hunterdon County Prosecutor Renee Robeson, on Monday, June 16, 2025, Domonique Preston, 45, of Raritan Township, New Jersey, appeared in Hunterdon County Superior Court and pleaded guilty before Superior Court Judge Christopher J. Garrenger to one count of Aggravated Manslaughter.
The Prosecutor’s Office Will Recommend That Preston Be Sentenced To 23 Years In Prison
In return for the guilty plea, the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office will recommend that Preston be sentenced to 23 years in State Prison, subject to the No Early Release Act, which will require Preston to serve 85% of her custodial term before becoming eligible for parole. In addition to the term of incarceration, Preston will be required to serve an additional five years of parole supervision.
The guilty plea stems from an investigation that began on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, when, at around 1:40 a.m., members of the Raritan Township Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a stabbing at a residence located on the 100 Block of Manchester Road in the Township.
Preston Admits To Police Officers To Fatally Stabbing Mr. Spivey
Upon arrival, Police Officers entered the home and discovered the lifeless body of Steven Spivey, 66, of Raritan Township, having succumbed to a stab wound to his left shoulder area. Mr. Spivey was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene. Responding Police Officers also encountered Preston, who also resided in the home, and admitted to stabbing Mr. Spivey.
Following admitting to the stabbing, Preston was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder; third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose; and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon. After being processed on the charges, Preston was remanded to the Warren County Correctional Center.
It is unclear if Preston and Spivey were involved in a romantic relationship. Police did not report if the stabbing occurred during a domestic dispute.
Following entering her guilty plea on Monday, Judge Garrenger accepted the plea and scheduled sentencing for August 15, 2025. At that time, Preston will be sentenced to a term of 23 years pursuant to the negotiated plea agreementÂ
