COLUMBUS, OH.- A 48-year-old Colombian national and a convicted felon is facing up to 20 years in federal prison after being federally indicted for unlawfully reentering the United States after being previously convicted of kidnapping and firearms offenses.

On Wednesday, June 18, 2025, a Federal Grand Jury for the Southern District of Ohio returned an indictment charging Jaime Fernandez-Alacron, 48, of Colombia, with one count of Illegal Reentry into the United States after being convicted of an Aggravated  Felony.

According To The Charging Information

According to Acting U.S. Attorney Kelly A. Norris and charging information unsealed in the indictment, it is alleged that Fernandez-Alacron was previously removed from the United States after being convicted in the State of New York of federal kidnapping and firearms offenses. The indictment further alleges that Fernandez-Alacron was found illegally in the State of Ohio after he was taken into custody in May 2025 by members of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

After being taken into custody, Fernandez-Alacron was locally charged with felony possession of drugs and motor vehicle offenses, including driving while intoxicated and without a valid driver’s license.

If Convicted, Fernandez-Alacron Faces 20 Years In Federal Prison

If convicted at trial on the charge of illegal reentry into the United States by an aggravated felon, Fernandez-Alacron faces up to 20 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine. Upon completion of any sentence imposed, upon a finding of guilt, Fernandez-Alacron will face immediate deportation proceedings and be removed from the United States.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
