MIDDLE TOWNSHIP, NJ.- On Thursday, Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sullivan reported that on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, a Grand Jury sitting in Cape May County, New Jersey, returned an indictment against a 34-year-old former Middle Township, New Jersey, elementary school teacher for allegedly having a four-year-long inappropriate sexual relationship with one of her student and giving birth to the students child.
According to Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland, on Tuesday, the Grand Jury returned the indictment charging Laura Caron, 34, of Cape May County Court House, New Jersey, with first-degree Aggravated Sexual Assault; second-degree Sexual Assault; and second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
Indictment Is The Result Of An Extensive Investigation
The indictment stems from an extensive investigation by Detectives of the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Middle Township Police Department that uncovered that between 2016 and 2020, Caron engaged in an inappropriate sexual relationship with a student who had been residing in her home during that time. During those four years, Caron was employed as a 5th-grade teacher at the Middle Township Elementary School.
Prosecutor Sutherland stated, “These allegations are deeply disturbing, particularly given the position of trust the defendant held in relation to the victim. Our office remains committed to protecting the most vulnerable members of our community and will continue to aggressively investigate and prosecute those who violate that trust.”
If convicted at trial, Caron faces a mandatory minimum of ten years and up to 20 years in New Jersey State Prison on the first-degree crime and a mandatory minimum of five and up to 10 years in prison on each of the second-degree crimes.
“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
