CAMDEN, NJ.- A 30-year-old Chester, Pennsylvania, man is facing over a decade in New Jersey State Prison after being convicted by a jury in connection with committing a lewd act on a PATCO train in front of two teenage girls and later trying to coerce the teens not to testify against him.
According to Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay, on Thursday, June 12, 2025, on Thursday, June 12, 2025, following a two-day trial in Camden County Superior Court, a jury found Charles May, 30, of Chester, Pennsylvania, guilty of two counts of third-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child by Sexual Conduct; two counts of fourth-degree Criminal Sexual Contact; and one count of third-degree Witness Tampering.

Following the jury returning their findings of guilt, a Superior Court Judge accepted the verdict and scheduled sentencing for July 11, 2025. At that time, May faces up to 15 years in State Prison. In addition to the term of imprisonment, May will be subject to parole supervision for life and be required to register as a sex offender pursuant to Megan’s Law restraints.
May Commits Lewd Act On Train
The guilty verdict stems from an incident that began on August 29, 2021, after May was taken into custody after he masturbated on the PATCO train in front of two teenage girls who were coming home from a concert in Camden, New Jersey. Camden Police Officers from the Delaware River Port Authority Police Department were notified of his deviant sexual conduct and placed him under arrest on a train station platform.
The case had been initially scheduled for trial in July 2024. However, in June 2024, one of the teenage girls started receiving strange, sexual, and intimidating Instagram messages from a burner Instagram account. Specifically, one message instructed her to “toss the case by mid-July.”
Detectives from the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Trial Team Unit investigated the messages and found that the burner Instagram account was created using two email addresses that were determined to have been used by May.Â
