HARRISBURG, PA.- Acting U.S. Attorney John C. Gurganus reported that on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, a Federal Grand Jury for the Middle District of Pennsylvania returned an indictment charging Rocael Lopez-Lopez, 32, of Guatemala, illegally residing in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, with one count of Illegal Reentry into the United States by a Deported Alien.

According to the charging information unsealed in the indictment, it is alleged that Lopez-Lopez was previously deported from the United States on December 21, 2012, through Phoenix-Mesa, Arizona.

Lopez-Lopez Found Illegally In Pennsylvania After Being Deported

The indictment further alleges that sometime after 2012, at an unknown date and an unknown location, he illegally reentered the United States without obtaining permission or legal authorization to do so. It is also alleged that Lopez-Lopez was illegally present in the country after being encountered on April 28, 2025, in Franklin County, Pennsylvania.

If convicted at trial, Lopez-Lopez faces up to two years in federal prison, at least one year of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. At sentencing, upon a finding of guilt, a U.S. District Court Judge will determine the term of imprisonment based on the seriousness of the offense and Lopez-Lopez’s prior criminal history.

Upon completion of any sentence imposed, Lopez-Lopez will face immediate deportation proceedings and be removed from the United States.

“The rules of the federal court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
