Hudson County Man Tragically Perishes In Monday Morning Residential Fire

GUTTENBERG, NJ.- Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez reported that Investigators of the Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force and the North Hudson County Regional Fire and Rescue are continuing the investigation into a fatal fire that occurred in the Town of Guttenberg during the morning hours of Monday, June 23, 2025, that claimed the life of a 37-year-old man.

     According to the Prosecutor’s Office, on Monday, June 23, 2025, just shortly after 7:00 a.m., members of North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a fire at 6914 Park Avenue in the Town of Guttenberg, New Jersey.

Firefighters Find Heavy Smoke And Fire On Third Floor

     Upon arrival, Firefighters located heavy smoke and fire coming from the third floor of a residential building. During fire suppression, Firefighters located a man, later identified as Marcos Santa-Zayas, 37, of Guttenberg, having sustained serious injuries. Mr. Santa-Zayas was immediately transported to Palisades Medical Center, where, despite life-saving efforts, Mr. Santa-Zayas tragically succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased around 8:20 a.m.

     The investigation into the Cause and Origin remains active and ongoing. Fire Officials believe foul play is not suspected at this time.
