St. Albans Man Sentenced For Trading Drugs For Stolen Firearms

BURLINGTON, VT.- A 46-year-old St. Albans, Vermont, man will be spending the next three-and-a-half years in federal prison after being sentenced last Friday for a federal firearms offense.

     According to Acting U.S. Attorney Michael P. Drescher, on Friday, June 20, 2025, Shane Hardy, 46, a former resident of Bedford-Stuyvesant, New York, and recently of St. Albans, Vermont, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the District of Vermont and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Geoffrey W. Crawford to 42 months in federal prison, to be followed by two years of supervised release after pleading guilty to Being a Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm, Convicted Felon.

According To Court Documents

     According to charging documents filed with the District Court, Hardy, who has an extensive criminal history, including a conviction for manslaughter in the State of New York, for which he served over a decade in New York State Prison. Despite having prior felony convictions and knowing he was prohibited from owning or possessing firearms and ammunition, he expressed an interest in firearms.

     In October 2023, Hardy accepted four stolen firearms as payment for a drug debt and an undisclosed amount of cocaine. After receiving the stolen firearms, Hardy then facilitated the transportation of the firearms by carrying them into a Sport Utility Vehicle, which had New Jersey license plates displayed.

     Hardy has remained in custody since his arrest in November 2023. He will now be scheduled for transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility.
