HARRISBURG, PA.- On Wednesday, June 18, 2025, a Federal Grand Jury for the Middle District of Pennsylvania returned an indictment charging Gregorio Perez-Cancero, 42, of Mexico, illegally residing in York, Pennsylvania, with one count of Illegal Reentry into the United States by a Previously Deported Alien.

According to Acting U.S. Attorney John C. Gurganus and charging information unsealed in the indictment, it is alleged that Perez-Cancero, a citizen of Mexico, was previously removed from the United States on October 4, 2017, through Hildalgo, Texas.

The indictment further alleges that sometime after being removed from the United States, Perez-Cancero, at an unknown date and at an unknown location, reentered the United States without obtaining permission or legal authorization to do so. The indictment also alleges that on May 23, 2025, Perez-Cancero was encountered illegally in York County, Pennsylvania.

Perez-Cancero Faces Up To 10 Years In Federal Prison

If convicted at trial, Perez-Cancero faces up to ten years in federal prison, at least one year of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. When sentenced, upon a finding of guilt, a U.S. District Court Judge would determine the term of imprisonment based on the seriousness of the offense and Perez-Cancero’s prior criminal history. Upon completion of any sentence imposed, Perez-Cancero would face immediate deportation proceedings and be removed from the United States.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
