Elderly Bergen County Man Charged In North Bergen Pedestrian Hit & Run

NORTH BERGEN, NJ.- On Thursday, June 26, 2025, a 77-year-old Lyndhurst, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and charged in connection with running down and critically injuring a Union City man earlier this month in North Bergen, New Jersey.
According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, on Thursday, Detectives of the Hudson County Regional Collision Unit formally charged Miroslaw Masiak, 77, of Lyndhurst, New Jersey, with third-degree Knowingly Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Collision Resulting in Bodily Injury; third-degree Endangering an Injured Victim; and fourth-degree Obstruction of the Administration of Law.
Masiak Was Formally Charged On Thursday
Masiak was taken into custody at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus, New Jersey. He was processed on the charges and released pending his first appearance, which has been tentatively scheduled for July 17, 2025, in Hudson County Central Judicial Processing Court in Jersey City, New Jersey.
According to the charging information filed in the criminal complaint, on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, just shortly before 5:00 a.m., members of the North Bergen Police Department responded to a report of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle within the 2600 Block of Tonnelle Avenue in North Bergen.
Upon Arriving On Scene, Police Officers Find Man Critically Injured
Upon arrival, Police Officers located a man, identified as a 42-year-old Union City, New Jersey resident, lying in the roadway, having sustained serious injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. At the time, the man was immediately transported to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment. During the initial investigation, Police Officers learned that the car that struck the man had fled the scene but was later recovered. During further investigation, Detectives were able to identify Masiak as the operator of the vehicle, which led to the charges being filed.
