DC Convicted Felon Sentenced For Unlawfully Possessing A Firearm

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Friday, July 27, 2025, Derkwon Johnson, 26, of Washington, D.C., appeared in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Loren L. AliKhan to 57 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release for his previously entered guilty plea to a federal firearms violation.
According to U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro, on January 29, 2025, Johnson appeared in Federal Court in Washington, D.C., and pleaded guilty before Judge AliKhan to being a Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm, Convicted Felon.
According To Court Documents
According to charging documents filed with the District Court, in December 2023, Investigators with the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department were alerted to Johnson’s post on the social media platform Instagram, which depicted a large, clear plastic bag containing a green, leafy substance, a firearm, and ammunition.
On January 4, 2024, Officers detailed to the Sixth District Crime Suppression Team executed a court-authorized search warrant at Johnson’s home located on the 3600 Block of Minnesota Avenue in Southeast, D.C.
Police Officers Find Glock 23 And Drugs
Upon entering the residence, just shortly after 6:00 a.m., Officers found six occupants: Johnson, Johnson’s half-sister, and her four young children, in a bed in a second bedroom. In the first bedroom, which was not occupied, the Officers located and seized a .40-caliber Glock 23 handgun from the top of a piece of a bedside night stand. The handgun, loaded with 28 rounds of ammunition, was equipped with a machine gun conversion device, commonly known as a “Switch.”
Police Officers also recovered a loaded ammunition magazine, a firearm laser attachment, and additional ammunition, a bag containing 335 grams of a green leafy substance, a pill bottle containing 40 white pills stamped RP/10 325 oxycodone, a scale, and $4,704 in cash.
Additionally, Investigators searched Johnson’s Instagram account and uncovered multiple chats, videos, and messages advertising and arranging for the sale of pills and marijuana between October 4, 2023, and January 4, 2024.
Johnson Was On Probation At The Time
At the time of the January 4, 2024, arrest, Johnson was on probation for a conviction in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia for conspiracy to commit robbery, two counts of armed robbery, two counts of possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, possession with intent to distribute PCP, and assault with a dangerous weapon.
