Police Charge Man In Tuesday Morning Northeast Knife Assault

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Tuesday, following an investigation, a 59-year-old Northeast, D.C., man was taken into custody and charged in connection with a stabbing that occurred earlier Tuesday morning in Southeast, D.C.

     According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, shortly after 10:30 a.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of an assault on the 3700 Block of Minnesota Avenue in Northeast, D.C.

Upon Arrival, Police Officers Find Victim With Minor Injuries

     Upon arrival, Police Officers located a victim who reported that while on Minnesota Avenue, they were approached by a suspect who began to assault them with a knife. The victim was transported by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries and later released.

     Within minutes, Police Officers located the suspect, identified as Robert Harris, 59, of Northeast, D.C. As a result of the Detectives’ investigation, Harris was formally charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon. Harris was processed on the charge and was remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility, pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
