Man Charged In May 2025 Hospital Plaza Shooting In The City Of Paterson

PATERSON, NJ.- On Wednesday, a 26-year-old Paterson, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with the shooting of a man that occurred in the late afternoon hours of May 18, 2025, in the City of Paterson, New Jersey.
According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, Moses Taylor, 36, of Paterson, was taken into custody in Elmwood Park, New Jersey, by members of the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force and the New Jersey State Police. After being taken into custody, Taylor was formally charged with second-degree Aggravated Assault; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and second-degree Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons.
Taylor was processed on the charges and was remanded to the custody of the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office pending future court proceedings in Passaic County Superior Court in Paterson, New Jersey. The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion with the court to detain Taylor pending trial.
Arrest And Charges Stem From An Investigation
The arrest and charges stem from an investigation that began on May 18, 2025, when, around 4:00 p.m., members of the Paterson Police Department responded to multiple reports of gunfire near the intersection of Spring Street and Hospital Plaza in the City of Paterson.
Upon arrival, Police Officers found shell casings and other evidence of a shooting crime scene. After canvassing the immediate area and contacting Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center, Police Officers and Detectives were unable to locate a victim.
The following day, on May 19, 2025, Paterson Police Officers and Detectives responded to Hackensack University Medical Center after receiving a report that a 33-year-old Paterson, New Jersey, man had arrived at the Medical Center seeking treatment for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
Based on the initial investigation, and following interviewing the man, Detectives determined that the 33-year-old Paterson man was struck by gunfire on May 18, 2025, near the intersection of Spring Street and Hospital Plaza in the City of Paterson. During the ensuing investigation, Detectives were able to identify Taylor as the shooter and the individual responsible for injuring the 33-year-old man.
If convicted at trial, Taylor would be facing nearly two decades in New Jersey State Prison. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
