Police Charge Man In Last Month’s Southeast Fatal Shooting

WASHINGTON, DC.-On Monday, a 47-year-old Arlington, Virginia, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with the shooting death of a 29-year-old man, which occurred in the early morning hours of Friday, June 27, 2025, inside a Southeast, D.C. apartment.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Friday, June 27, 2025, just shortly before 2:00 a.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Seventh District responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a disturbance at an apartment located on the 4200 Block of 4th Street in Southeast, D.C.
Upon Arrival, Police Officers Find Mr. Lewis Fatally Shot
Upon arrival, Police Officers made entry into an apartment unit and found a man, later identified as Deandre Lewis, 29, of Northeast, D.C., having succumbed from a single gunshot wound. Mr. Lewis was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services.
During the ensuing investigation, following interviewing witnesses and the collection of evidence, Detectives were able to identify Maurice Gaskins, 47, of Arlington, Virginia, as the suspect and the individual responsible for the shooting death of Mr. Lewis.
On Monday, July 7, 2025, Gaskins was located and taken into custody and formally charged with one count of second-degree Murder While Armed. He was processed on the charge and was remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility, pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
