Former New Haven Man Sentenced For Narcotics Trafficking

HARTFORD, CT.- A 34-year-old Bridgeport, Connecticut, man, and a previously convicted heroin dealer will be heading back to federal prison for five years after being sentenced on Wednesday on federal drug trafficking offenses.

     According to U.S. Attorney David X. Sullivan, on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, Joshuwa Diaz, 34, of Bridgeport, Connecticut, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Vernon D. Oliver to 60 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release after previously pleading guilty to narcotics trafficking.

According To Court Documents

     According to charging documents and statements made in the District Court, on February 18, 2024, during an ongoing narcotics investigation, law enforcement investigators executed a court-authorized search warrant at Diaz’s apartment located on Orange Street in New Haven, Connecticut. During the search, Investigators located and seized around 75 grams of fentanyl, 278 grams of cocaine, 47 grams of crack cocaine, and a loaded P80 handgun with no serial number, also known as a “Ghost Gun.”

     On that date, Diaz was taken into custody and charged with multiple federal offenses, and later released on a $50,000 bond. On February 11, 2025, Diaz appeared in Federal Court in Hartford, Connecticut, and pleaded guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute Controlled Substances, Fentanyl, and Crack Cocaine.

     Diaz was previously convicted in the District Court for the District of Connecticut for distributing heroin and was sentenced to 78 months in federal prison in April 2013.
