Police Charge Man Following Hours-Long Standoff In Southeast D.C.

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Wednesday, following an hours long standoff with Police, a 27-year-old Southeast, D.C., man was taken into custody and charged in connection with a gun assault that occurred early that day, in Southeast, D.C.

     According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, shortly after 1:30 a.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Seventh District responded to a report of an individual brandishing a handgun on the 2900 Block of Knox Place in Southeast, D.C.

     Upon arrival, Police Officers were informed by a victim that a suspect pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the victim, and then fled the scene.

Police Locate Suspect And A Standoff Ensues

     Additional Seventh District Police Officers responded to the area and located the suspect in a nearby residence. The suspect refused to exit the residence, and a standoff with police ensued. The Metropolitan Police Department’s Emergency Response Team responded to the scene. After several hours, the suspect, later identified as Renando Corbin, 27, of Southeast, D.C., exited the residence and surrendered to Police Officers without incident.

     As a result, Corbin was charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon; and Possession of an Unregistered Firearm. He was processed on the charges and was remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility, pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
