BOSTON, MA.- On Monday, a 30-year-old Guatemalan national, illegally residing in New Bedford, Massachusetts, was sentenced to federal prison for unlawfully being in the United States after having previously been removed in 2019.
According to U.S. Attorney Leah B. Foley, on Monday, July 14, 2025, Jose De Leon Ventura, 30, of Guatemala, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Indira Talwani to five months in federal prison, to be followed by one year of supervised release after pleading guilty in May 2025, to one count of Illegal Reentry into the United States by a Deported Alien.
De Leon Ventura, who has remained in custody since his arrest in April 2025, will face immediate deportation proceedings upon completion of his federal term of imprisonment and will be removed from the country.
According To Charging Documents File With The District Court
According to the charging documents filed with the District Court, De Leon Ventura was previously removed from the United States in December 2019, after being arrested by U.S. Border Patrol in Yuma, Arizona. Sometime after his 2019 removal, De Leon Ventura, at an unknown date, and at an unknown location, reentered the United States without obtaining permission or legal authorization from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, to do so.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement became aware of De Leon Ventura’s presence in the United States following his August 2023 arrest for driving under the influence and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s license.
U.S. Attorney Foley commended the investigative work of Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Enforcement Removal Operations, which led to the successful prosecution of De Leon Ventura.
