Police Charge Man In March 2025, Shooting In Southeast D.C.

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Saturday, a 22-year-old Northwest, D.C., man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with the March 10, 2025, late-night shooting of a woman in Southeast, D.C.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Monday, March 10, 2025, just shortly before 10:30 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Seventh District responded to a 911 Emergency Call, reporting a shooting at the intersection of South Capitol Street and Southern Avenue in Southeast, D.C.
Upon Arrival, Police Officers Find A Woman Shot
Upon arrival, Police Officers located a woman suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The woman was transported by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services to a nearby hospital for treatment and has been released and continues to recover at home.
Detectives Were Able To Identify Anderson As The Shooter
During the ensuing investigation, Police Officers and Detectives were able to recover area surveillance camera footage that assisted Detectives in identifying the suspect as Xavier Anderson, 22, of Northwest, D.C., and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
On Saturday, July 12, 2025, Police Officers of Prince George’s County, Maryland, attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle being operated by Anderson for driving erratically at the intersection of Maury Avenue and Audrey Lane in Prince George’s County, Maryland. As Police Officers attempted to conduct the stop, Anderson quickly jumped out of his vehicle and fled on foot. Police Officers were able to apprehend Anderson on the 600 Block of Galveston Street in Southeast, D.C.
During The Arrest, Police Officers Learn That Anderson Is Wanted
During the arrest procedure, Police Officers learned that Anderson was wanted on charges in connection with the March 10, 2025, Southeast, D.C. shooting.
Accordingly, on July 12, 2025, pursuant to a DC Superior Court probable cause arrest warrant, Anderson was formally charged with Unregistered Ammunition; Felon in Possession of a Firearm; and Assault with a Dangerous Weapon. Anderson was processed on the charges and was remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility, pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
