One Dead, One Jailed In Monday Morning Fatal Stabbing In Vineland

VINELAND, NJ.- On Monday, July 14, 2025, following an investigation, a 27-year-old Vineland, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with the alleged stabbing death of a 67-year-old man that occurred earlier in the day in the City of Vineland, New Jersey.
According to Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae, Jayron Thomas, 27, of Vineland, New Jersey, was formally charged with one count of first-degree Murder; third-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and fourth-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.
Thomas was possessed on the charges and was remanded to the Cumberland County Jail, pending future court proceedings in Cumberland County Superior Court in Bridgeton, New Jersey. The Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion with the court to detain Thomas pending trial.
The charges stem from an incident that unfolded on Monday, July 14, 2025, at around 10:30 a.m., members of the Vineland Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a stabbing in progress in the area of 771 South East Avenue in the City of Vineland.
Upon Arrival, Police Officers Find Man Suffering From Stab Wounds
Upon arrival, Police Officers located a man, later identified as Ronald Shields, 67, of Vineland, New Jersey, suffering from multiple life-threatening stab wounds. Mr. Shields was immediately airlifted to an Atlantic City hospital, where, despite life-saving efforts, Mr. Shields tragically succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased a short time later.
During the preliminary investigation, and based on witnesses’ descriptions, Police Officers were able to locate Thomas a short distance away from the scene and later formally charged.
