BURLINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ.- On Monday, a 40-year-old Burlington Township, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with allegedly beating his elderly mother to death earlier this month inside her Burlington Township, New Jersey, home.
According to Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia L. Bradshaw, on Monday, July 14, 2025, Orsman Summerville, 40, of Burlington Township, was formally charged with one count of first-degree Murder. Summerville was taken into custody upon being released from a Morris County Medical Center.
Summerville was processed on the charge and remanded to the Burlington County Jail, pending future court proceedings in Burlington County Superior Court in Mount Holly, New Jersey. The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion with the court to detain Summerville pending trial, which has been scheduled to be heard on Friday, July 18, 2025.
Detectives Determine That Summerville Kiiled His Mother
The charge stems from an investigation that began during the evening hours of Sunday, July 6, 2025, when members of the Burlington Township Police Department responded to the 100 Block of Andre Court in the Township after receiving a report from family members that they had discovered the body of Enid Wordsworth, 72, inside her home she shared with her son, Summerville.
A subsequent post-mortem examination performed by the Burlington County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the Cause of Death to be blunt force trauma, and the Manner of Death to be Homicide.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, during the investigation, Detectives of the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office and the Burlington Township Police Department quickly determined that Summerville killed his mother, then fled the home in his mother’s vehicle. Detectives quickly issued an alert for the vehicle, and Summerville was located on July 7, 2025, after being involved in a motor vehicle collision on Interstate 287 in Morris Township, New Jersey.
Summerville’s injuries he sustained in the motor vehicle required hospitalization. He was served with the warrant and taken into custody yesterday, after receiving medical clearance and being released from the hospital.
