5-Year-Old Boy Dies After Being Found In Backyard Pool In Wayne Township

WAYNE, NJ.- Detectives of the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Investigations Unit and the Wayne Township Police Department are continuing the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the drowning death of a 5-year-old boy who died from injuries after being found floating in a backyard pool early last night in Wayne Township, New Jersey.
According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, on Friday, July 18, 2025, shortly around 6:30 p.m., members of the Wayne Township Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a possible drowning at a residence located in the area of Armstrong Avenue and Maple Lane in the Township.

Upon arrival, Police Police Officers encountered witnesses at the scene who reported that a 5-year-old boy had been located unresponsive floating in a pool after he had left his residence without being accompanied by an adult, at around 5:30 p.m. The child was immediately transported to Chilton Medical Center in Pompton Plains, New Jersey, where, despite life-saving efforts, the boy tragically succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased shortly after 7:30 p.m.
