Police Charge Man In July 9th Shooting In The City Of Paterson

PATERSON, NJ.- On Saturday, following an investigation, a 26-year-old Paterson, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with shooting a man earlier this month in the City of Paterson.

     According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, based on an investigation by members of the Paterson Police Department’s Shooting Investigation Unit, Keime Porter, 26, of Paterson, New Jersey, was formally charged first-degree Murder; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and second-degree Certain Persons Not to Possess a Weapon.

     Porter was taken into custody on Saturday, July 19, 2025, by members of the U.S. Marshals Service, the New Jersey State Police, and the Paterson Police Department without incident in the area of Gregory Avenue and Burgess Place in Clifton, New Jersey.

     Porter was processed on the charges and was remanded to the custody of the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office, pending transfer to an area county jail, where he will be held pending future court proceedings in Passaic County Superior Court. The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion with the court to detain Porter pending trial.

Detectives Identify Porter As The Shooter

     The charges stem from an investigation that began on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, when, around 7:45 p.m., members of the Paterson Police Department responded to reports of a shooting in the area of 12th and Madison Avenues in the City of Paterson. Upon arrival, Police Officers located evidence of a shooting crime scene. While on scene, Police Officers quickly located a 55-year-old Paterson, New Jersey man who had sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The man was transported to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center, where he received treatment and was later released.

     During the ensuing investigation, Detectives were able to identify Porter as the shooter and the individual responsible for injuring the 55-year-old man, and charges were filed against Porter.

     If convicted at trial, Porter faces up to 20 years in New Jersey State Prison and a consecutive 10 years if convicted on the charge of certain persons not to possess a weapon.
