TOMS RIVER, NJ.- On Sunday, a 22-year-old Lacey Township, New Jersey, woman was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with allegedly running down and injuring two men, one critically, late Saturday night in Toms River Township, New Jersey.

According to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer, on Saturday, July 19, 2025, shortly before 11:30 p.m., members of the Toms River Township Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a pedestrian hit and run collision in Wintergreen Village apartments in the Township.

Upon arrival, Police Officers located a 60-year-old man suffering from multiple severe injuries after being struck by a motor vehicle. The man was immediately transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, New Jersey, for treatment of his injuries and remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition. Police Officers also located a second man who sustained minor injuries in the collision and was treated at the scene.

Detectives Identify Nemutle As The Driver That Struck The Men

During the ensuing investigation, Detectives of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, the Toms River Township Police Department, with assistance from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, were able to identify the vehicle and the driver of the vehicle as Cagla Nemutle, 22, of Lacey Township, New Jersey.

Further investigation uncovered that Nemutle was exiting a parking space within the Wintergreen Village apartments when she struck the two men and fled the scene without stopping and rendering aid or notifying the Police Department.

Nemutle Was Taken Into Custody And Charged Sunday Morning

Police Officers were able to locate Nemutle a short time later within the apartment complex and arrested her. Accordingly, on Sunday, July 20, 2025, Nemutla was formally charged with second-degree Knowingly Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Collision Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury. She was processed on the charge and was remanded to the Ocean County Jail, pending future court proceedings in Ocean County Superior Court in Toms River, New Jersey.
