LITTLE FERRY, NJ.- On Friday, following an investigation, a 68-year-old Morris County, New Jersey, man, employed as a Doctor at a Bergen County, New Jersey, Family Medical Group, was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with allegedly sexually assaulting a female patient during an examination.

According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, on Friday, July 18, 2025, members of the Little Ferry Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit after receiving a report of an alleged sexual assault that occurred earlier that day at the Family Medical Group in Little Ferry, New Jersey.

Detectives Determine The Doctor Committed Sex Crimes

During the ensuing investigation, and following interviewing the female victim, Detectives of the Bergen County Special Victims Unit and the Little Ferry Police Department quickly found probable cause to believe that Richard B. Tancer, 68, of Montville, New Jersey, committed acts consistent with the sexual assault of the female patient while performing an examination on her.

Accordingly, on Friday, July 18, 2025, Tancer was taken into custody in Montville, New Jersey, and formally charged with two counts of fourth-degree Criminal Sexual Contact. He was processed on the charges and remanded to the Bergen County Jail, pending future court proceedings in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, New Jersey.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
