Police Charge Man In Southeast D.C. Shooting Investigation

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Tuesday, a 28-year-old Southeast, D.C., man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with shooting a man earlier this month in Southeast, D.C.

     According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at around 11:19 a.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Seventh District responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting an individual being shot on the 3700 Block of 9th Street in Southeast, D.C.

Police Find Man Suffering From A Gunshot Wound

     Upon arrival, Police Officers located a man suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The man was immediately transported by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services to a nearby hospital, where he was treated and subsequently released.

     During the ensuing investigation, D.C. Metropolitan Police Detectives were able to identify the shooter as Marquis Jenkins, 28, of Southeast, D.C., and a warrant was issued for his arrest. 

     On Tuesday, July 22, 2025, Jenkins was located and taken into custody pursuant to the DC Superior Court warrant and formally charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon. Jenkins was processed on the charges and remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility, pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
