 Man Dies From Injuries After Being Found Unresponsive On Jersey City Street

JERSEY CITY, NJ.- Detectives of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are continuing the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a 56-year-old Jersey City, New Jersey, man, who was found unresponsive Friday morning, in the Greenville section of Jersey City.

     According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, on Friday, July 25, 2025, just shortly after 9:00 a.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting an injured man outside in the area of Neptune and Garfield Avenues in Jersey City.

Police Officers Find Man Unresponsive On The Street

     Upon arrival, Police Officers located the man, later identified as Joey Richburg, 56, of Jersey City, New Jersey, unresponsive, lying on the ground on Neptune Avenue. Mr. Richburg was immediately transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center, where, despite life-saving efforts, Mr. Richburg tragically succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased a short time later.

     The Cause and Manner of Death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

     The investigation remains active and ongoing.
