Hartford Man Pleads Guilty To Federal Fentanyl Trafficking Offense

NEW HAVEN, CT.- A 35-year-old Hartford, Connecticut, man, and a local drug dealer will be facing up to 40 years in federal prison, when sentenced, after pleading guilty on Friday, in Federal Court in New Haven, Connecticut, to a federal drug trafficking charge.

     According to U.S. Attorney David X. Sullivan, on Friday, July 26, 2025, Tyrick Thomas, 35, of Hartford, Connecticut, and currently in custody, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut and entered a guilty plea to Possession with Intent to Distribute 40 Grams or More of a Controlled Substance, Fentanyl.

     Following entering his guilty plea, the Court accepted the plea and scheduled sentencing for October 22, 2025. At that time, Thomas faces a mandatory minimum of five years and up to 40 years in federal prison, as well as at least four years and up to a lifetime of supervised release, and a $1 million fine. At sentencing, a U.S. District Court Judge will determine the term of imprisonment based on the seriousness of the offense and Thomas’s prior criminal history.

According To The U.S. Attorney’s Office

     According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, on July 16, 2024, during an ongoing investigation, Thomas was taken into custody during the execution of a court-authorized search warrant at his residence on Ashley Street in Hartford, Connecticut. During the search, Investigators located and seized just around 88 grams of a substance that later tested positive for methamphetamine, fentanyl, and xylazine, a potent animal tranquilizer, commonly known as “Tranq”. 

     A subsequent search of his vehicle uncovered nearly 200 single-dose wax folds of the deadly drug cocktail mixture of fentanyl and xylazine, and an additional amount of loose fentanyl.
