NEW HAVEN, CT.- A 32-year-old Shelton, Connecticut, man, will be facing up to 20 years in federal prison when sentenced, after waiving his right to indictment and pleading guilty on Monday in Federal Court in New Haven, Connecticut, to receiving and distributing digital images and video files depicting the sexual exploitation and abuse of children, including some of infants and toddlers being sexual abused by adults.

According to U.S. Attorney David X. Sullivan, on Monday, July 28, 2025, Burnest Geyer, Jr., 32, of Shelton, Connecticut, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut and waived his right to indictment and pleaded guilty before U.S. District Court Judge Victor A. Bolden to a federal criminal complaint charging Receipt and Distribution of Child Pornography.

Geyer, who is currently released on a $100,000 bond, will be facing a mandatory minimum of five years and up to 20 years in federal prison when sentenced, which will be scheduled at a time and date to be determined by the District Court. In addition, when sentenced, Geyer will be required upon completion of any sentence imposed to serve at least five years, and up to a lifetime of supervised release, and will be required to register as a sex offender.

According To Charging Documents

According to the charging information and statements made in court, an investigation uncovered that Geyer had told an individual that he possessed video files of child pornography, and that he further communicated to a second individual through Telegram, an encrypted instant phone messaging application, about his child pornography collection.

During a Telegram communication in July 2024, Geyer shared his laptop screen and displayed digital images and video files depicting the sexual exploitation and abuse of prepubescent and pubescent children.

Geyer Was Arrested In October 2024

Geyer was taken into custody on October 8, 2024. On that date, Investigators executed a court-authorized search warrant at Geyer’s Shelton, Connecticut, residence. During the search, Investigators seized Geyer’s cellular iPhone and other items. During a forensic examination of the Telegram Instant Messaging application installed on his iPhone, Investigators uncovered more than 3,000 digital images and video files depicting child pornography, including many depicting the sexual abuse of infants and toddlers by adults.

The investigation further uncovered that Geyer engaged in dozens of conversations with others on Telegram and WhatsApp regarding his interest in the sexual abuse of children, and even offered to pay adult content creators to sexually exploit their children over video calls with him.

U.S. Attorney Sullivan commended the investigative work of the U.S. Homeland Security Investigations, with the assistance of the Bridgeport and Shelton Police Departments.
