Valley Stream Man Charged With Embezzling From NJ Employer

OCEAN TOWNSHIP, NJ.- On Monday, following an investigation, a 28-year-old Valley Stream, New York, man was taken into custody and charged in connection with embezzling nearly $500,000 from his former Ocean Township, New Jersey, employer.

     According to Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago, on Monday, August 11, 2025, Joseph Hardoon, 28, of Valley Stream, New York, was taken into custody and charged with one count of second-degree Theft by Unlawful Taking. Hardoon was processed on the charge and was released on a complaint summons pending future court proceedings in Monmouth County Superior Court in Freehold, New Jersey.

     The charges stem from an investigation that began when members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Financial Crimes and Special Prosecutions Unit were contacted by Hardoon’s former Ocean Township employer after it was discovered that he had stolen funds while employed as the company’s bookkeeper.

Detectives Uncover Nearly $500,000 In Two Year Theft Scheme

     During the ensuing investigation, Detectives uncovered that between 2021 and 2024, Hardoon stole $497,500 from the company.

     If convicted at trial, Hardoon faces up to ten years in New Jersey State Prison and would be required to make restitution in the amount of the total loss.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
