BALTIMORE, MD.- Last Wednesday, a 43-year-old Baltimore, Maryland, man with an extensive criminal history, learned he will be facing up to life in federal prison when sentenced later this year after being found guilty of federal drug trafficking and firearms crimes.
According to U.S. Attorney Kelly O. Hayes, on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, following a four-day trial, a Federal Jury for the District of Maryland, found Anthony Nichols, 43, of Baltimore, Maryland, guilty of Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition by a Prohibited Person; Possession with Intent to Distribute Controlled Substances, Cocaine and Fentanyl; and Possession of a Firarm in Furtherance of a Drug Trafficking Crime.
Nichols Is Scheduled To Be Sentenced In Late November
Upon the jury returning their findings of guilt, the Court accepted the verdict and scheduled sentencing for November 21, 2025. At that time, Nichols faces a mandatory minimum of 5 years and up to life in federal prison for the possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, consecutive to any other term of imprisonment. On the drug trafficking count, Nichols faces a mandatory minimum of ten years and up to 20 years in federal prison, and on the possession of a firearm and ammunition by a prohibited person, Nichols faces up to 15 years in federal prison.
At sentencing, a U.S. District Court Judge will determine the term of imprisonment based on the seriousness of the offenses and Nichols’ prior criminal history.
According To Evidence Presented During The Four-Day Trial
According to the evidence presented during the trial, the U.S. Attorney’s Office presented evidence that proved beyond a reasonable doubt that Nichols was dealing drugs within the 500 block of Cumberland Street, Baltimore, Maryland. On May 1, 2023, members of the Baltimore Police Department observed Nichols engaging in hand-to-hand drug transactions via the CitiWatch camera network.
After observing the sales, the Baltimore Police Department’s central control immediately deployed Police Officers to the 500 block of Cumberland Street to arrest Nichols, but he fled Police Officers on his bicycle along West North Avenue in Baltimore.
After a short pursuit, Police Officers apprehended and placed Nichols under arrest. During his arrest procedure, Police Officers found a loaded Glock firearm strapped to Nichols’ body, glass vials of cocaine, plastic gel capsules containing a fentanyl and cocaine mixture, and $567 in U.S. currency in denominations consistent with street-level sales. Nichols was prohibited from possessing a firearm and ammunition due to his prior criminal history.
U.S. Attorney Hayes commended the investigative work of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Baltimore Police Department, and the Baltimore County Police Department, which led to Nichols’ conviction on Wednesday.
