Monongalia County Drug Dealer Pleads Guilty To Federal Drug Crime

CLARKSBURG, W.VA.- A 30-year-old Morgantown, West Virginia, man will be facing up to life in federal prison when sentenced later this year, after pleading guilty on Thursday to distributing methamphetamine in the Monongalia County, West Virginia, area.
According to Acting U.S. Attorney Randolph J. Bernard, on Thursday, August 14, 2025, LaShawn Monroe, 30, of Morgantown, West Virginia, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of West Virginia and pleaded guilty before U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael John Aloi to Possession with Intent to Distribute 50 Grams or More of a Controlled Substance, Methamphetamine.
After entering his guilty plea, Judge Aloi accepted the plea and scheduled sentencing for a time and date to be determined by the District Court. When sentenced, Monroe faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years and up to life in federal prison, at least four years of supervised release, and up to a $5 million fine. At sentencing, a U.S. District Court Judge will determine the term of imprisonment based on the seriousness of the offense and Monroe’s prior criminal history.
According To Charging Documents
According to the charging information filed with the District Court, during a narcotics investigation into drug trafficking in the Northern District of West Virginia, Investigators identified Monroe as a methamphetamine distributor. During the investigation, Monroe possessed and intended to unlawfully distribute more than 1,700 grams of methamphetamine within Marion County, West Virginia.
   Acting U.S. Attorney Bernard commended the investigative work of the Mon Metro Drug Task Force, with the assistance of the Three Rivers Drug Task Force, which led to Monroe’s arrest and Thursday’s guilty plea.Â
