EWING, NJ.- Last Friday, a 35-year-old Ewing, New Jersey, man learned he will be spending the rest of his life being supervised by New Jersey State Parole Officers after being sentenced for possessing hundreds of digital images and video files depicting the sexual exploitation and abuse of children.
According to Mercer County Prosecutor Janetta D. Marbrey, on Friday, August 15, 2025, Philip Nelson, 35, of Ewing, New Jersey, appeared in Mercer County Superior Court and was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Peter E. Warshaw to a suspended New Jersey State Prison term, subject to parole supervision for life, after pleading guilty to possessing child pornography.
Last Friday’s Sentence Stems From A Child Pornography Investigation
The guilty plea and Friday’s sentence stem from an investigation that began when Detectives of the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Unit received a CyberTip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children regarding an individual in the Mercer County, New Jersey, area, who had uploaded multiple media files depicting child pornography to the internet.
During the ensuing investigation, Detectives were able to identify an IP address associated with an Ewing, New Jersey, address and further identified Nelson as the individual utilizing the IP address to upload media files of child pornography to the internet.
In March 2025, Detectives executed a court-authorized search warrant at Nelson’s Ewing residence. During the search, Detectives seized multiple electronic devices. During an initial examination of the devices, Detectives uncovered digital images and video files of child pornography. On that date, Nelson was charged with possession and possession with intent to distribute child pornography.
On April 30, 2025, Nelson appeared in Mercer County Superior Court and pleaded guilty before Judge Warshaw to one count of third-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child, for possessing under 1,000 Digital Images of Child Pornography.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, in addition to the parole supervision for life, Judge Warshaw ordered Nelson, a New Jersey State employee, to forfeit his public employment and barred him from seeking future public employment.
