Bergen County Man Facing Additional Child Sexual Assault Charges

TEANECK, NJ.- On Friday, following a continuing investigation, a 37-year-old Teaneck, New Jersey, man initially charged early this month for the alleged sexual assault of a child, was additionally charged with multiple counts of child sex crimes.
According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, as previously reported, on Friday, August 1, 2025, caseworkers with the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency contacted Detectives of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding an allegation of the sexual abuse of a child, under the age of sixteen.
An investigation by Detectives of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Teaneck Police Department quickly uncovered that Diego A. Zhinin, 37, of Teaneck, New Jersey, had sexually assaulted a child under the age of sixteen in Teaneck, New Jersey, beginning in November 2020 and lasting through July 2025. Zhinin was subsequently taken into custody and charged with sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual contact, and endangering the welfare of a child.
Following being charged, Zhinin made his initial appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, New Jersey, and was released on monitoring conditions pending future court proceedings.
Continuing Investigation Uncovers Additional Child Sex Crimes
During further investigation, Detectives determined that Zhinin sexually assaulted the child victim on multiple occasions over eight years, between November 2016 and July 2025, in Hackensack, Maywood, and Teaneck, New Jersey, beginning when the child was under the age of thirteen. Accordingly, on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, Detectives filed additional charges against Zhinin.
Last Friday, August 22, 2025, Zhinin surrendered himself to Detectives at the Maywood Police Department, where he was formally charged with four counts of first-degree Aggravated Sexual Assault; and one count of first-degree Criminal Attempt to Commit Sexual Assault. Zhinin was processed on the charges and remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending future court proceedings in Bergen County Superior Court.
