POINT PLEASANT, NJ.- On Thursday, following an internet child pornography investigation, a 42-year-old Point Pleasant Borough, New Jersey, man, who is a foster parent, was taken into custody and jailed after being charged with producing, distributing, and possessing digital images and video files depicting the sexual exploitation and abuse of children.

According to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer, John Olson, 42, of Point Pleasant Borough, New Jersey, has been formally charged with first-degree Manufacturing of Child Pornography; second-degree Distribution of Child Pornography; and Possession of Child Pornography.

Olson was initially taken into custody on Friday, August 22, 2025, and on Thursday, August 28, 2025, he was formally charged. He was processed on the charges and was remanded to the Ocean County Jail pending future court proceedings in Ocean County Superior Court in Toms River, New Jersey.

Arrest And Charges Stem From An Online Child Porn Investigation

The charges stem from an investigation that began when Detectives of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office received a referral from the New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, after the task force received a CyberTip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children regarding an individual who was uploading digital images and video files depicting child pornography.

During the ensuing investigation, Detectives were able to identify an IP address associated with a Point Pleasant Borough home as the location from which the child pornography was being uploaded to the internet by the individual. Further investigation led Detectives to identify Olson as the individual.

On Friday, August 22, 2025, Detectives of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office and the Point Pleasant Police Department, with the assistance of the Ocean County Regional SWAT Team, executed a court-authorized search warrant at Olson’s residence and seized multiple electronic devices. Further investigation uncovered that Olson had utilized the internet Instant Messaging application Kik to upload digital images of child pornography to other users.

Detectives also learned that Olson’s home was being used as a foster home and that there were cameras in the children’s bedrooms. On that date, following the execution of the search warrant, Olson was initially charged with distribution and possession of child pornography and was remanded to the Ocean County Jail, pending future court proceedings.

During a subsequent forensic examination of the electronic devices seized, Investigators uncovered that a cellular phone belonging to Olson contained nude images of children, which appear to have been taken by cameras in the children’s bedrooms. Following the discovery of the images, on Friday, August 28, 2025, Olson was additionally charged with the manufacturing offense. He was served with the charge at the Ocean County Jail.
