Plymouth Man Charged In NJ Child Pornography & Sextortion Scheme

HACKENSACK, NJ.- Last Wednesday, following an interstate sextortion investigation, a 37-year-old Plymouth, Massachusetts, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with the alleged distribution of child pornography, sexual extortion, and related stalking offenses.
According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, in June 2025, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit received information regarding an alleged sexual extortion scheme. An adult woman reported that over the course of several weeks, multiple unknown phone numbers called her and sent threatening messages to her and her family members, including sending and then deleting digital images and video files depicting her nude or engaged in sexually explicit acts.
Detectives Were Able To Determine Meserve As The Suspect
Despite eight different phone numbers being used to make contact, the sender appeared to be Robert J. Meserve, III, 37, of Plymouth, Massachusetts, with whom the woman was acquainted. During the ensuing investigation, Detectives of the Bergen County Cyber Crimes Unit determined that the messages were designed to coerce the woman into a sexual relationship by threatening to expose sexually explicit photos and video files.
Ultimately, Detectives were able to trace the activity to Meserve. In addition, Detectives uncovered that in January 2025, Meserve utilized the internet to share digital media files depicting the sexual exploitation and abuse of prepubescent children.
On Wednesday, August 27, 2025, with the assistance of the Massachusetts State Police and the U.S. Marshals Service, Detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit traveled to Massachusetts and executed a court-authorized search warrant at Meserve’s Plymouth, Massachusetts, home. During the search, Meserve was taken into custody.
Meserve Is Jailed On Charges
Accordingly, following being taken into custody, Meserve was formally charged with second-degree Distribution of Child Pornography; third-degree Sexual Extortion; fourth-degree Terroristic Threats; and fourth-degree Stalking. Meserve was processed on the charges and remanded to the Plymouth County, Massachusetts, Correctional facility on a fugitive from justice warrant pending extradition to New Jersey.
