MILLVILLE, NJ.- A 34-year-old former Millville, New Jersey, man, and a now convicted child predator, will most likely die in New Jersey State Prison when he is sentenced later this year, after being found guilty last Thursday, for the horrific years-long sexual assaults of two young children.

According to Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae, on Thursday, August 28, 2025, following a nearly three-week trial before Superior Court Judge Niki Arbittier in Cumberland County Superior Court, a Jury found Brian Scherfel, 34, formerly of Millville, New Jersey, guilty of thirteen counts in a fifteen-count indictment for the repeated sexual assaults of a child between the ages of eight and thirteen years old, and a second child who was sexually assaulted at the six-years old.

Scherfel Convicted On 13 Counts

Scherfel Faces Up To Life In State Prison

Following the jury returning their findings of guilt on Thursday, Judge Arbittier accepted the verdict and scheduled sentencing for December 6, 2025. At that time, Scherfel faces consecutive terms of a mandatory minimum of 25 years and up to life in New Jersey State Prison on each of the first-degree charges, a mandatory minimum of five years and up to 10 years on each of the second-degree charges. On the third-degree charge, Scherfel faces up to five years in State Prison, and up to eighteen months in State Prison on the fourth-degree charge.

During the trial, Cumberland County Assistant Prosecutors Erin McGlynn and Caitlin Flynn presented evidence that Scherfel sexually assaulted two young girls. Specifically, that on various dates between 2017 and 2022, Scherfel sexually assaulted one of the children who was between the ages of eight and thirteen. Assistant Prosecutors McGlynn and Flynn also presented evidence and testimony that on various dates in 2016, Scherfel sexually assaulted the other child at the age of six years old. All of the assaults occurred in the City of Millville, New Jersey.
