Police Charge Man For Role In February’s Northeast Fatal Shooting

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Wednesday, a 23-year-old Washington, D.C., man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with fatally gunning down an 18-year-old man in February at Union Station in Northeast, D.C.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Monday, February 10, 2025, just shortly after 4:30 p.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s First District and additional Law Enforcement partners responded to Union Station, located at 50 Massachusetts Avenue in Northeast, D.C., after Amtrak Police reported hearing gunfire near the bus waiting area at the station.
Police Officers Find Man Shot Near The Parking Garage
Upon arrival, Responding Police Units located a man, later identified as Wayne McDaniel, 18, of Northeast, D.C., unresponsive, on the ground near the escalators to the parking garage, suffering from gunshot wounds, where, despite life-saving measures by responding Police Officers, Mr. McDaniel succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services.
During The Investigation, Detectives Identify Mason As The Shooter
During the ensuing investigation, Detectives, based on video surveillance footage and witness accounts, were able to identify the shooter as Faizon Mason, 23, of Northeast, D.C., and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
On Wednesday, September 3, 2025, pursuant to a DC Superior Court warrant, Mason was located and taken into custody and formally charged with one count of second-degree Murder While Armed and related Weapons Offenses. Mason was processed on the charges and was transported to the D.C. Central Detention Facility pending a first appearance in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
