WASHINGTON, DC.- On Friday, a 42-year-old District Heights, Maryland, man wanted in connection with an August 2024 Southeast, D.C., shooting was taken into custody and jailed after being returned to Washington, D.C., to face charges.

According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, just shortly after 2:00 a.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Sixth District responded to multiple 911 Emergency calls reporting a shooting on the 1800 Block of Q Street in Southeast, D.C.

Upon arrival, Police Officers discovered a man suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The man was transported by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services to a nearby hospital, where he was treated and released, and has made a full recovery.

During The Subsequent Investigation, Detectives Identify Suspect

During the ensuing investigation, Detectives, based on witness descriptions and area surveillance camera footage, were able to identify the shooter as Christopher Warren, 42, of District Heights, Maryland, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On Friday, September 12, 2025, following being located and taken into custody in Maryland, Warren was extradited from Maryland to Washington, D.C.

Following his return, Detectives formally charged Warren pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court warrant with Assault With a Dangerous Weapon; and related Weapons Offenses. He was processed on the charges and was remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility pending future court proceedings in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
