CAMDEN, NJ.- Last Monday, a 41-year-old Camden, New Jersey, man and two members of his family were taken into custody and jailed after being charged on Friday, September 5, 2025, in connection with the June 12, 2025, brutal slaying and dismemberment of a 48-year-old Deptford, New Jersey, man whose body still remains missing.

According to Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay, on Friday, September 5, 2025, following an investigation, Everton Thomas, 41, of Camden, New Jersey, was formally charged with one count of first-degree Murder in the death of 48-year-old Harold “Hal” Miller of Deptford, New Jersey. Thomas was additionally charged with second-degree Desecration of Human Remains; and fourth-degree Tampering with Physical Evidence.

Additionally, on Friday, September 5, 2025, Thomas’ wife, Sherrie Parker, 41, and Thomas’ son, Deshawn Thomas, 22, both of Camden, New Jersey, were each charged with second-degree Desecration of Human Remains; and fourth-degree Tampering with Physical Evidence.

Charges Are The Result Of A Nearly Three Month Investigation

The charges stem from an investigation that began when, on June 14, 2025, Mr. Miller was reported missing to the Deptford Township Police Department. It was reported that Miller had been playing cards with friends in Camden, New Jersey, during the early morning hours of June 12, 2025. Mr. Miller’s empty vehicle was later discovered in Pennsauken, New Jersey, on June 14, 2025.

During the ensuing investigation, Detectives of the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, the Deptford Township Police Department, and the Camden County Police Department located surveillance video footage and cell phone data that showed that Mr. Miller entered a residence located on the 2600 Block of Baird Boulevard in Camden, shortly before 11:30 a.m., on June 12, 2025. Moments later, the video footage captured the sound of what appeared to be a single gunshot.

Mr. Miller was never seen exiting the home or leaving the property. However, the video captured a man, later identified as Thomas, entering Mr. Miller’s vehicle and parking it where it was later located in Pennsauken, New Jersey.

Following The Gunshot, Thomas’ Wife And Son Were Seen Buying A Chainsaw

Detectives later learned that Thomas’ wife, Sherrie Parker, and his son, Deshawn Thomas, purchased a chainsaw, containers, plastic bags, and other cleaning supplies after Mr. Miller was observed entering the residence but never exiting. Additionally, surveillance video footage showed Thomas and his son, Deshawn, making several trips to the Tamarack Apartment complex dumpsters and loading containers and trash bags into a vehicle before leaving Camden City.

Detectives Locate Mr. Miller’s Blood Inside The Home

On June 20, 2025, Detectives obtained and executed a court-authorized search of the defendants’ residence. At the time of the search, Detectives found Thomas to be in possession of a loaded firearm on his person. The gun had one round in the chamber and nine rounds in the magazine. Detectives recovered suspected bloodstains from inside the home. The following day, June 21, 2025, Thomas, who had not been charged at that time, fled New Jersey to Canada.

During further investigation, subsequent forensic testing confirmed that Mr. Miller was the source of the DNA recovered from the bloodstains found inside the home.

On September 5, 2025, Detectives File Charges Against All Three

On Friday, September 5, 2025, Detectives filed charges against all three defendants, following an exhaustive investigation by members of the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit, the Camden County Police Department, along with assistance from the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office and the Deptford Township Police Department.

On Monday, September 8, 2025, Sherrie Parker and Deshawn Thomas were taken into custody in Camden, New Jersey, by members of the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force. The two were processed on the charges and were remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility pending future court proceedings in Camden County Superior Court.

Everton Thomas was taken into custody on Friday, September 8, 2025, at the Port of Buffalo, New York, by Customs and Border Patrol Agents, after crossing back into the United States from Canada. Thomas is currently being detained in a New York correctional facility pending extradition to New Jersey.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Anyone with additional information regarding this investigation is asked to contact Detective Jake Siegfried of the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office at (856) 225-5086 or Detective Andrew Mogck of the Camden County Police Department at (609) 519-8588.
