TRENTON, NJ.- Earlier this month, following a two-month investigation, a 32-year-old Trenton, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and charged in connection with illegally selling marijuana out of his Trenton, New Jersey, smoke shop.
According to Mercer County Prosecutor Janetta D. Marbrey, throughout the spring months, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office received credible information from various sources, including community members, public websites, and social media accounts, regarding the alleged illegal distribution of marijuana in the City of Trenton.
Detectives Launch An Investigation Into Illegal Marijuana Sales
An investigation was launched. During the investigation, Detectives of the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Task Force, the New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice, and the Trenton Police Department uncovered that Moses Sutton, 32, of Trenton, New Jersey, was found to be advertising and operating “Moe Weed,” a smoke shop located at 1114 South Broad Street in the City of Trenton, where he was selling marijuana products without the required licensing from the State of New Jersey.
During July and August, Detectives completed multiple undercover purchases of marijuana totaling around six ounces. Following the purchases, on September 2, 2025, Sutton was taken into custody and formally charged with two counts of third-degree Distribution of a Controlled Dangerous Substance. He was processed on the charges and released on monitoring conditions, pending future court proceedings in Mercer County Superior Court in Trenton, New Jersey.
“This operation should serve as a notice to unlicensed distributors who are illegally selling cannabis without complying with state standards and regulations,” Prosecutor Marbrey said. These dispensaries will be subject to investigation, which may result in the seizure of illegally sold marijuana and the arrest of individuals engaged in its sale without a license from the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission.”

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
