Thursday, September 18, 2025, 5:30 P.M. ET 2 Minute Read, By Art Fletcher: Englebrook Independent News,

PHILLIPSBURG, NJ.- On Monday, following an investigation, a 40-year-old Paterson, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with an apparent dispute that ended with shots being fired inside a Phillipsburg, New Jersey home.

According to Acting Warren County Prosecutor Jessica L. Cardone, on Monday, September 15, 2025, Rashad A. McCaskill, 40, of Paterson, New Jersey, was formally charged with second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; second-degree Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons; fourth-degree Hindering Apprehension or Prosecution; fourth-degree Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Magazine; and two counts of fourth-degree Criminal Mischief.

Charges Stem From A Shooting Inside A Home

The charges stem from an investigation that began on Monday, September 15, 2025, when, shortly after 9:30 a.m., members of the Phillipsburg Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a firearm being discharged inside a home, located on the 100 Block of Fox Street in the Town of Phillipsburg.

Upon arrival, Police Officers located and detained an individual who was exiting the residence, and no one sustained injuries during the incident.  During the initial investigation, Police Officers determined that a verbal argument had ended with McCaskill firing the weapon inside the residence. Further investigation uncovered that the bullet fired by McCaskill traveled through an exterior wall into a neighboring home, where it lodged in an interior wall. Unrelated to the verbal altercation, two people were present in the adjacent home when the bullet entered and lodged.

Police Officers and Detectives recovered a loaded Glock 9mm handgun and a high-capacity magazine at the scene. McCaskill was processed on the charges at the Phillipsburg Police Department and transported to the Warren County Correctional Center pending future court proceedings in Warren County Superior Court in Belvidere, New Jersey.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
