Rutland Man Sentenced For Distributing Crack Cocaine & Gun Crime

BURLINGTON, VT.- On Tuesday, a 44-year-old Rutland, Vermont, man and previously convicted local crack cocaine dealer learned he will be spending the next four years in federal prison, after being sentenced for federal drug and firearms crimes.
According to Acting U.S. Attorney Michael P. Drescher, on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, Todd Popovitch, 44, of Rutland, Vermont, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the District of Vermont and was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Christina Reiss to 48 months in federal prison, to be followed by seven years of supervised release, after pleading guitly to armed drug trafficking.
Popovitch Pleads Guilty To The Charges
Popovitch previously appeared before Judge Reiss in Federal Court in Burlington, Vermont, and pleaded guilty to Distribution of a Controlled Substance, Crack Cocaine; and Possession of an Unregistered Firearm Under the National Firearms Act.
Popovitch Has Prior State And Federal Drug And Gun Convictions
According to documents filed with the District Court, Popovitch, who had been previously arrested and charged with state and federal narcotics offenses, had been sentenced and successfully completed both state and federal drug treatment programs before returning to armed drug dealing in 2024.
